What material is particleboard made of and what is it used for?

What material is particleboard made of and the difference between MDF? Particleboard is a wood-based panel made of wood or other lignocellulosic materials that are glued under the action of heat and pressure after applying an adhesive. Also known as particle board. So what material is particleboard made of?

What material is particle board made of

1. Particleboard is made on the basis of scraps, but the range of scraps is wide. According to different types of scraps, particleboard can be divided into wood particleboard, bagasse particleboard, flax chipboard, cotton stalk particleboard, Bamboo particleboard, etc., cement particleboard, gypsum particleboard. It can be seen that most of the scraps contain wood cellulose. Gypsum particleboard and cement particleboard can be said to be quite special.

2. The wood raw materials of the wooden particle board are mostly obtained from the residues of felling timber in the forest and the residues of wood processing. By processing the remaining material into flakes, strips, needles, and granular wood chips, shavings, wood wool, and sawdust, they are called scraps. It is also common to use non-wood material particleboards such as plant stems and seed shells. The name of this type of particleboard is often named after the material used, such as hemp stalk particleboard, bagasse particleboard, etc.

3. Particleboard, also known as particle board, is a kind of cutting of various branches and buds, small-diameter wood, fast-growing wood, sawdust and other raw materials into fragments of a certain size. After drying, mixed with glue, hardener, waterproofing agent, etc., A wood-based panel pressed under a certain temperature and pressure, the particles are unevenly arranged. Although particle board is also called particle board, it is not the same board as solid wood particle board. Solid wood particle board is only similar in processing technology to particle board, but its quality is much higher than that of particle board. Therefore, the price of particleboard is relatively cheap. Particleboard can be used as veneer substrate, cabinet board, floor pad, stair tread, etc. It is one of the most popular interior decoration boards.

Uses of particleboard

1. As a base material: Industrial grade particleboard is suitable as a base material for veneer, and many veneer materials are available. Particleboard with uniform density, small thickness tolerance and smooth surface is a good veneer substrate.

2. Kitchen cabinets: Particleboard can be used as the shelves, side panels, back panels, drawers, doors and other components of the cabinets. Particleboard has performance and economic advantages. The grades of kitchen cabinets are M--S, M- -2, M---3.

3. Countertop: Particleboard is dimensionally stable, flat, smooth, without knots or voids, high impact, easy to veneer, can be used as the core board for countertops, and meets ANST A 161.2 veneer counter performance standards.

4. Floor padding board: 4 X 8 feet particleboard is easy to install, can be used as floor padding board, (PBU) plus rough floor, this kind of floor has high strength, strong, good sound effect and impact resistance. Can be installed with nails or grooved rings, followed by carpet, resilient brick or seamless floor coverings.

5. Housing decking: Housing decking MHD thickness is between 5/8 inches and 13/16 inches, it is a square tongue and groove board, and it is made of specific length and width. The MHD complies with ANST A 208.1 and is available in two grades D2 and D3.

6. Stair treads: It is an excellent material for indoor stair treads, it will not crack, has various lengths, and the material utilization rate is high and the waste is minimized. Particleboard treads have a uniform thickness, and one side of the board is rounded, which saves time and facilitates installation.

7. Shelving: This is a common use that provides builders with an affordable, flat, easy-to-cut, non-porous, smooth-surfaced board. Industrial grade applications are subject to specific requirements. Particleboard shelves are flat, or have square or rounded edges.

8. Door cores, door sills and molded parts: Particleboard door cores are not as easy to warp as solid wood, and their thermal insulation and sound resistance help reduce heat loss and sound wave transmission. Particleboard door jambs wrapped in PVC or ready to be painted are an economical option for building a home. Particleboard is also a good substrate for PVC-clad interior moldings and architectural joinery.
